New flights to Spain will draw more English and Irish visitors

Spain will receive more English and Irish visitors due to the introduction of new flights nexts year. British Airways will offer extra services from its London-based hubs to destinations such as Malaga from March 2008. Additional flights to Palma and Alicante will also be launched by the carrier at the same time. RyanAir has also launched new routes from its Shannon base to Fuerteventura, Tenerife, and Alicante; from Dublin to Palma and Santander and from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Alicante.

Robert Boyle, commercial director at BA, commented: “We are opening up these Mediterranean hotspots with our new flights and are confident that they will be very popular with customers.” The announcement comes shortly after budget carrier Ryanair launched a new thrice-weekly service to Alicante from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Ryanair has also launched new routes from its Shannon base to Birmingham, Fuerteventura, Kaunas (Lithuania), Leeds, London Luton, Riga, Tenerife, and Alicante; its first domestic service from Shannon to Dublin and three new routes from Dublin to Palma, Santander and Zadar (Croatia). This will bring the number of Ryanair routes from Dublin to 83, and from Shannon to 31. Ryanair will carry over13 million passengers on 135 Irish routes next year. No other airline carries as many passengers or offers as many routes to/from Ireland.
