You can start visiting the Arab Baths, one of the few remains of Muslim architecture preserved on the island. It was built in the tenth Century and still conserves a horseshoe areched chamber supported by columns. Continue your walk towards the Almudaina Palace, a roman building that used to be the residence of Muslim governors. The main entrance to the Almudaina Palace leads to the King’s Courtyard or Courtyard of Honour. The most outstanding elements from the palace chapel are the Santa Praxedis Chapel, located beneath an image that dates back to 1458, and the throne room from the XIVth century with huge pointed diaphragm arches that support a ceiling identical to the ceiling of the Palace of the Kings of Mallorca in Perpignan.
If you want to see one of the few European circular castels, visit the Bellver Castle. It is located 3 km from Palma’s city centre and 112.6 m above sea level, dominating the bay and a large part of the island of Mallorca. Construction commenced at the beginning of the 14th century on the orders of Jaime II, King of Mallorca, and the castle’s functions were both defensive and residential. The plan of the building is circular with three semi-circular towers and another tower about 7 metres away from the main body of the Castle. The construction is set around a central courtyard and has two levels: the ground floor with round arches and flat ceilings and the upper floor with lancet arches covered with a cross vault in pure Gothic style.
Finish your tour admiring some sculptures by Rodin, Chillida and Henry Moor amongst others that the Palau March (March Palace) in the historical centre of Palma, right next to the Cathedral and to the Almudaina Palace. The building homes the March Foundation that was created in 1975 by Bartolomé March. The Palace als has a room showcasing Majorcan Cartography.
