Travelling to Barcelona with kids

If you are planning to visit Barcelona with your kids, I recommend you to check out Emma’s site: Kids in Barcelona. I has all the information you need about parks, theatre, museums and activities that you can do with your children. Rent your apartment in Barcelona and visit the Museu Nacional del Art de Catalunya with your son or daugther to explore the concepts behind Surrealism.

The MNAC has set up a special space for children which you can access from the Oval inside the museum with material for kids to experiment with Surreal creations. This is part of the Surrealism exhibition with includes works from Dali, Miró, Cristofol, Clave and Serra.

If your children are in between 6 and 9 years old I recommend you to visit the Flash Workshop at the CosmoCaixa. Children can play with light and shade and discover how the appearance of objects can be altered with lighting - sometimes with suprising results.

And if you just want to walk and enjoy the sun, then your place is the Parc de la Ciutadella. It is one of the oldest city parks (declared an historic monument in 1951) with over 43 acres of greenery. For kids, there are 3 playground areas and the main playground near the duck pond hosts a free young children’s outdoor Ludoteca, All types of toys are put out for the children to play with. Along the Pg. Pujades side of the park, there is table- tennis if you feel like bringing your own bat and balls. As well as duck feeding at the park’s lake, you can also hire rowing boats. There are also a couple of kiosks for drinks and ice creams. The one at the fountain makes a good place to stop as not only is the fountain itself worth contemplating, you will sometimes find the bandstand occupied by dancers or musicians. Family-style bikes (4-5 seaters) can be hired from the bike rental shop opposite the Entrance on Pg. Picasso with Marqués de l’Argentera.
