Sonar Music Festival Barcelona
The 13th Sonar electronic music festival hits Barcelona from June 15th-17th featuring a distinctly hip-hop theme. The bands will mainly play in two spaces divided into night and day - the Macba and CCCB during the day and the and the Gran Via 2 complex by night. The organisers have chosen to focus on black artists this year and in particular hip-hop performers. The group Chic headed by Nile Rodgers wil be playing classic disco and radical lyricist Linton Kwesi Johnson will represent the dub genre in June. One Self and Jeff Mills will both perform as will Digable Planets and Californian hip-hop/dub star Eliot Lipp. Nighmares on Wax will be providing some trip-hop for the event too. There will also be a special feature on Japanese music with 20 artists representing the Asian powerhouse including Afra and the Incredible Beatbox Band and Yanagisawa Marina . Last year, 90.000 visitors were recorded and saw over 630 artists perfor. Tickets for the whole 3 days are €130 but day tickets will go on sale shortly so book early to guarantee a place at one of Barcelona’s biggest and most spectacular music bonanzas.
