La Palma “Talcum Powder” Festival
The period around Lent is always an important one for Spaniards and from the 18th February until the 5th March Santa Cruz de La Palma comes alive with a bizarre mix of Native Americans and believe it or not, thousands of kilos of talcum powder. Since the 1960s, this carnival has remembered the flood of emigrants who left the Canaries for the Americas. The town will come alive with Cuban rhythms and an enormous “battle of talc” which erupts as the parade starts on Carnival Monday. Don’t forget to bring your towel!
