Lanzarote - Timanfaya National Park
The volcanic lava fields of Timanfaya National Park are a UNESCO designated World Biosphere Reserve. The barren landscape was once fertile, agricultural land, but was wiped clean by a series of vocanic eruptions in 1730 and later in 1824. To tour the park, most visitors take the 45 minute tour bus but walking trips are also possible if arranged in advance. Or for something completely different, its also possible to take a short camel ride around the park.
