Santa Cruz Carnival
The biggest festival in the Canary Islands - The Santa Cruz Carnival - is almost upon us running from the middle of February to the second week of March. Thousands of people will flock to the capital of Tenerife for two weeks of non-stop partying, drinking and Latin carnival spirit. A huge stage in Placa España will host bands and performers, predominantly from South America. The carnival ends in bizarre style as a funeral march follows a huge effigy of a sardine whilst a mock-bishop blesses a group of men dressed as saucy nuns in suspenders. Now you wouldn’t see that in Rio.
