Explore Spain through its World Heritage Cities

Did you know that Spain is the world’s nation with the second most designated World Heritage Sites? Now you know, and I can also tell you that if you are planning your trip to Spain you should include some of the cities with some of the world’s most important monuments: the Great Mosque of Cordoba, the city walls of Ávila or the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. And if you want to make your life easier, just rent a apartment in these cities, by checking the availability at Niumba: apartments in Santiago de Compostela, apartments in Cordoba, apartments in Ávila.

Here is the perfect plan for you (just a few cities to start with, I will give you more in another post):

Cordoba
Its historic centre is designated World Heritage. Very few places in the world can boast of having been the capital of Hispania Ulterior under the Roman Empire, and the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate. It is home to one of the Caliphate’s most spectacular works of art: the Great Mosque.

Avila
Birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesús, rises under the shelter of the Gredos Sierra. Behind the walls of this capital of Castile-León, a priceless compound is concealed, made up of Renaissance churches and palaces. Its city wall is the best conserved in Europe. The old town and the churches to be found outside the walls are on the World Heritage list.

Santiago de Compostela
World Heritage City and capital of Galicia, is the final landmark on the St. James pilgrimage route (Camino de Santiago). Centuries of splendour and development have left us an urban layout in which the medieval Christian heritage is mixed with monumental Baroque buildings. It is said that the remains of the apostle St. James are inside the cathedral, a splendid example of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. Its old town is designated World Heritage.
