Caving in Spain

Not all of Spain’s beauty lies overground. Believe it or not, Spain is one of the best places in Europe for caving with more than 10,000 known and explored caves. Some of these underground gems are not the sole preserve of speleologists and expert cavers, but are also open to the general public. The variety is enormous. Take for example the El Tesoro Cave, in Rincón de la Victoria, Malaga - one of only the three caves of marine origin known in the world. Or try the El Viento Cave, on the Canary Islands of Tenerife, one of the world’s longest volcanic labyrinths, stretching over 17 kilometres, with some spectacular lava cascades. Admire stalactites more than three metres high at the Campanet Caves, close to the road that runs between Palma and Alcúdia, on the island of Majorca, or head for Martel Lake, one of the world’s largest underground lakes, in the Drach Caves, where classical music concerts are held daily.

    Hello,
I’m contacting you because from 18 till 27 december me and my friend will visit the island of Tenerife. We both are experienced, trained and autonome cavers and are able to practise single rope technics. We are looking forward to go caving in the Canarian lava-caves.
I was wondering if you could help me out with more information.
    * Are there any maps of the caves, maybe there is a guide book of the Tenerife caves? Where can I find this information, or can you help me with this.
    * Can you help me with getting in contact with an caving club on Tenerife? I hope you can give me an emailadress.

I hope you can give me more information, so I can make plans for caving in Tenerife.

    Thank you,
    Lisette de Graauw

    Hi Lisette,

I’m afraid I’m not a specialist in this area. However, the lady that runs
this site: http://www.secret-tenerife.com should be able to help you.

    Hope it helps.

Many thanks for your confidence in my abilities Nick (and for calling me a lady :-) I will admit that I know little about caving too, but in response to this question and another I recieved today, I have gathered some information and links on caving in the Canaries here.

Not to long ago there was a documentary of all kinds of drawings from the stone-age. It was in a valley somewhere in Spain.
Can anybody tell me where this valley is, like to go there in august. thank you in advance
