Horse Racing in Andalucia

During the month of August, the town of SanlĂșcar de Barrameda is host to some of the oldest horse races in Europe. The races take place along the beach at the mouth of the river Guadalquirir and have the distinction of being the first regulated horse races in Spain. Riders wear traditional jockey colours and caps and cover distances of up to 1800 metres. The Andalusians are famous for breeding some of the best thoroughbreds in the world so forget the Derby or Ascot - make SanlĂșcar your destination this year.
