Cava Week
Imagine drinking Cava for a whole week. Well between 6-14th October, that’s exactly what happens at Catalonia’s largest Cava-producing town, Sant SadurnĂ d’Anoia which celebrates its favourite drink with feasts, concerts and celebrations. The week is kicked off with the inaugural address and the crowning of the “Cava Queen” who arrives in royal style accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting (and the police).
The week continues with a series of dinners, a bicycle race, a Cava art exhibition and a Petanque evening. There is also Catalan folk music and even cava symposiums! There’s also the rather bizarre Barcelona train ride where 1000 delegates board the “Cava train” for Sant SadurnĂ d’Anoia along with a load of carnival characters such as those wearing giant heads (a typical Catalan tradition) with a fanfare to the town hall and Cava cellars. After a tour of the festivities, they return to Barcelona apparently.
