Treat yourself to the Beaches in Girona
With this weather in Spain, the sun bathing my skin and my mind thinking about my holidays I can only continue writing about beaches. And this time it’s about Girona. Close to Barcelona and half-way between the sea and the mountains, Girona enjoys a privileged position and preserves some of the most valuable heritage sites in Catalonia, based on three elements that are unique in Europe: its old fortifications, which include the western world’s largest sections of wall dating from the time of Charlemagne, one of the best preserved Jewish quarters, and the Cathedral, which is the widest Gothic span in the world, with 23 metres of free space. In addition, the visitor has the opportunity of viewing beautiful Gothic and Romanesque buildings, and of contemplating works of art of notable interest in its fascinating museums. That’s the city of Girona. And what about the beaches in the whole province? A real treat for anybody. I am renting my apartment in Girona and taking a tour at all these beaches:
Playa de Tossa o Playa Gran: This beach is closed off on the west by the medieval castle of Tossa de Mar. It is set in a beautiful area. It is equipped with all facilities and infrastructures.
Platja de Castell: It is a 375 metre long sandy beach with good amenities, lifeguard services, bars and restaurants in Palamos.
Platja de la Fosca: It is a 500 metre sandy beach which offers a wide range of water sports with a sailing and windsurfing school as well as all amenities including bars, restaurants, toilets and showers in Palamos.
Platja d’Aro: its main beach is 2400 metres long with every amenity and facility while the Platja de Sa Conca is a much smaller 400 metre beach with a beach bar and sun beds and parasols.
Beaches at Roses: this area offers a great number of beaches and coves which range from small unspoilt and relatively undiscovered coves to long stretches of sand with all tourist amenities. There is a great deal to choose from in this resort, with the larger beaches being near the centre of Roses and the smaller coves a short drive from the town. Probably the most remote is Canadell which is a wild and secluded pebble beach situated between the Jòncols and Pelosa coves about 10km from Roses. It is only 60 metres long and has no services other than the essential cleaning and coastal surveillance.
