FIB Heineken is arriving to Benicassim
Costa del Azahar Holiday Rentals: FIB Heineken ‘09 is Spain’s biggest music festival
FIB Heineken, Spain’s biggest festival, and a point of reference in the international panorama, plays host each summer to more than 100 artists who come to perform across its 4 stages. Benicàssim, a small town on the Costa de Azahar (literally, the “Orange Blossom Coast”) situated between Valencia and Barcelona, turns into the European capital of music for over a week. People from all over the world will travel to Benicassim to participate in FIB Heineken 09, July 16th-19th.
The line-up for FIB Heineken 09, the XV International Benicàssim Festival, is now complete. The line-up includes the heroes of Spanish indie rock, Los Planetas, as the crown jewel of what is without doubt the most important programme of Spanish bands in our history, and with Tom Tom Club, the perfect ending for a summer party. Birdy Nam Nam , Delorean, Glass Candy, Los Coronas and The Wave Pictures are other important names of this list that completes, in the absence of a winner of the ‘Fast Track’ contest, the musical part of FIB Heineken 09.
FIB Heineken – Benicàssim International Festival – was born of the Maraworld team’s passion for music, and from 1995 has been bringing together the best of indie rock, pop and electronic music. Year after year, it manages to surprise, with an innovative and up-to-date line-up (of bands), as well as inviting artists who are a reference on the world stage. Just a few steps from the beach, the 4 nights of concerts (from 17.30h to 8h) and 9 days of camping included in the pass as well as the programme of art, theatre, cinema and dance in the festival venue and on the streets and beaches of Benicàssim, offer the chance to experience an
unforgettable holiday on the shores of the Mediterranean.
The FIB experience
Nine days of free camping in well-cared-for grounds right next to the concert venue where you can both rest and meet interesting and like-minded young people from all over the world. Four intense days of concerts, an entire week of extra-musical activities, and one of the nicest beaches in Europe where you can relax, sunbathe and swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
FIB History
On the first weekend of August of 1995, the first edition of the Festival was born, bringing 8,000 young people together in the city’s velodrome, where two more editions of the Festival would take place. Bands like Suede, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Orbital, The Chemical Brothers and The Stone Roses, among others, left their distinctive marks on the musical history of a completely different and new kind of event in Spain.
In 1998, the Festival expanded significantly and considerably when it moved to a new venue, offering far better conditions for both the fans and the artists – Björk, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Primal Scream, Spiritualized and sixty other bands performing on three stages over three days, kicking off a new stage in the Festival’s life with style. It was also in 1998 that the Festival’s Extramusical Activities were launched, such as the FIB Fashion Show and the FIB-Act theatre festival, both of which are non-profit ventures. These activities would gain in intensity over the next years to eventually include FIB’s Date with Dance, FIB Summer Courses, the FIB International Short Film Festival and FIB-Art – all of which have woven themselves into the fabric of Benicàssim society as essential elements of a cultural proposition open to one and all. In 2001, Heineken came on board as the Festival’s main sponsor; as such, it came to be known as FIB Heineken.
Firmly consolidating FIB Heineken’s reputation and status in both Spain and Europe, 2007 was another record-breaking banner year, with more that 150,000 people attending over four days to bask in the magic of Devo, The B-52’s, Arctic Monkeys, Iggy & The Stooges, Wilco, Amy Winehouse and Rufus Wainwright.
FIB Heineken 2008 continued to set the standard of distinction and quality thanks to artists like My Bloody Valentine, Morrissey, The Raconteurs, Siouxsie, and Morente Omega with Lagartija Nick – not to mention the tremendous and showstopping concert Leonard Cohen put on, which is no doubt indelibly etched in the memory of everyone who was there.
