Marbella’s Bustling Markets
Marbella might be have been taken over by designer boutiques on its high street but its street markets help keep old traditions alive. Every week, they attract a noisy local crowd hunting for bargains and gifts. The town hosts six street markets: on Monday mornings the fairground of Las Albarizas holds a market offering food, clothes, shoes, plants and flowers. On Thursdays, in the Divina Pastora neighbourhood, in San Pedro de Alcántara, you can buy produce from vegetable gardens, clothes, shoes and beautiful pieces of Andalusian pottery. On Fridays, a market takes place in Las Chapas. Boulevard de la Fama, in Puerto Banús, holds stalls offering a wide variety of different objects, but if you are looking for antiques, coins, watches or collectibles, you should go to Nueva Andalucía on Saturdays. Finally, also on Saturday mornings, you can visit the ‘Mercado de los candiles’ (oil lamp market) in La Alameda park, with dozens of stalls displaying crafts, trinkets and other accessories.
