Costa Verde
Galicia is hitting the headlines for its forest fires at the moment but its also one of the most beautiful and unexplored parts of Spain. The Costa Verde coast - “where the countryside meets the sea” as the tourist board likes to say - runs along the coast of Asturias for 345 kilometres flanked by the Cantabrian Sea. The waters of the sea give the coast endless shades and contrasts, where the blue of sea and sky, and the green of the landscapes collide. Mountains and sea come together in stunning landscapes, and there are charming villages and ports, valleys, mountains and forests, beaches, estuaries, cliffs, and important heritage towns and cities. If peace and quiet is what you are looking for, you should head for the westernmost part of Asturias, which borders with Galicia. There you will find villages such as Luarca, Cudillero and Castropol, with beautiful beaches in harmony with the surrounding countryside, some of which are almost untouched.
