Dénia Sea Bull Festival

How do you fancy facing a raging bull and then jumping in the sea at the last minute before it kills you? The Valencian town of Dénia does exactly this for the much-anticipated Toros/Bous a la Mar (Sea Bull Festival). This bull running extravaganza is staged from 3rd to the 11th of July every year to comemorate the Day of the Sacred Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ (el Día de la Santísima a Sangre de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo).
It might sound an unusual way to do so but its certianly one of the more spectacular Christian celebrations you are likely to see anywhere. The only escape option when participants are faced with a raging bull is to jump from the harbour walls into the sea. Other highlights of the event include processions, carriage parades and fireworks. Saturday is said to be the best time to visit if you are limited for time.
