Garajonay National Park

Forests and lakes are not what normally spring to mind when you think of the Canary Islands but that’s exactly what you get with the Garajonay National Park, located in the centre and North of the island of La Gomera. The enchanting park is like returning to the past as the countryside is truly unspoilt. It has a constant humidity and the so-called “horizontal rain” that pierces the leafy, dense forest. The forest landscapes are a major feature of the Park, since it is home to many different plantlife such as laurel, white heather, visnea mocanera and the strawberry tree. Numerous species of birds and two species of reptile, the Gomeran lizard and the Gomeran skink as well as a species of amphibian, the green frog live inside its enchanting surrounds.
