Lanzarote Iron Man
Lanzarote hosts what is considered the toughest Ironman Triathlon in the world on 21st May as 800 competitors - 63 women and 737 men - compete for the title as they attempt to complete a 4km swim, a 180km bike ride and a 50km run all in one day. Although this is basically a one-day event, there are a host f activities for a week before it plus all the parties and celebrations that follow it. The organisers desribe the event thus:
“You will love the awe inspiring beauty of this breathtaking volcanic island, the magnetic charm and hypnotic appeal of both the island of Lanzarote and the race, often described as the Hawaii of Europe. The ideal opportunity to qualify for Hawaii early in almost identical conditions to those you will experience at Kona. Fully supported by the Canarian and Lanzarote Government, the race organization and headquarters are located at Club La Santa, the world’s most exciting sports playground with its superb sports and accommodation facilities”.
