Spain’s Biggest Waterfight

On 7th August, Gran Canaria plays host to one of Spain’s more unusual fiestas - the 12,000 people strong La TraĆda de Agua. Based in Lomo Magullo-Telde, the event basically involves soaking the nearest person to you with whatever you can get your hands on. The tradition grew out of the need for water for the island’s crops of oranges, almonds and sugar cane. On some occasions, youngsters would go out and hunt for the water take it out into the fields which gave the festival it’s name - Fetching The Water.
