Tips for parents travelling with children in Madrid
Travelling with children in Madrid? No problem. Here are some tips for a fun trip!
Â
Start with nature and science at the Zoo-Aquarium located at Casa de Campo, and continue with ‘bio-fun’ at the Faunia Theme Park , a biodiversity theme park made up of 8 of the worlds eco-systems and 3,500 animals. Keep some of your energy fot the Amusement Park and the Warner Bros-Madrid Theme Park , a grand amusement park occupying 250 hectares in the San MartÃn de la Vega locality where your kids will be able to play with Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Daffy Duck, and Batman among others characters.
Â
Take advantage of this time alone with your children to show them that museums could be magical too. Go to The Planetarium and amaze them with its three-dimensional cinema screen. And finish the tour with a big star: the CosmoCaixa Museum Madrid, a three-storey building connected by circular ramps that surround the exhibition halls. Science, however, cannot only be found on the inside of the museum. Outside, a garden area houses the Rock Garden with samples from all over the Iberian Peninsula as well as a collection of plants typical of the region. This space also houses a curious sight starring a heavy Granite Ball supported by a jet of water which explains Pascal’s Principle.
Â
In the garden visitors can use the CosmoCaixa Sound Telescope which transmits sound great distances even though there is great atmospheric noise. The green area surrounding the museum will enable many outdoor activities to be held.
Â
The museum is structured into four big areas: the temporary exhibitions, dealing with the scientific issues of today, and which this year opens with Hurricane, 1724. Navigators and shipwrecks on the mercury route; the permanent exhibition, Sciences of the World, which sets out an interactive journey through the different scientific disciplines ruling the world; a planetarium with the very latest digital technology, enabling visitors to discover the movement of the stars without limits of either space or time; and a wide-ranging programme of activities with experimental workshops, conferences, seminars and courses, designed with everyone in mind.
The Madrid Card Niños is a good option to ensure that your children make the most of everything on offer: it includes entrance to the museums in Madrid aimed at young audiences, and, of course, to the city’s three most important galleries (the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and the Reina SofÃa Art Centre). It also includes all the guided tours in the “Descubre Madrid” programme, unlimited use of the Madrid Visión sightseeing bus, a tour of the Santiago Bernabéu (Real Madrid) football stadium, entrance to the Zoo-Aquarium, and discounts for other leisure attractions, shows, restaurants and shops. It is for children up to 12 years, costs €15, and is valid for 72 hours.
