Runaway from Christmas shoppings and admire the paintings of Sorolla and Sargent
If you are in Madrid around this time of the year and want to escape from the noise of Christmas shopping you can find a warm and nice refuge in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. The museum has an exhibition that offers a parallel presentation of the respective careers of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923), painters of notable artistic affinitiy who knew and admire each other.
Sargent and Sorolla coincided at a time when impressionism began to gain international importance. Although both of them were on the edge of this artistic movement, they have both been considered as impressionists on various occasions, on account of their constant preoccupation with light and colour, and of their understanding of art from a sentimental point of view.
