Madrid Nightlife

Lost in Madrid for a weekend or two? Well, I am going to give you some tips to keep you busy dancing, meeting people, and having a great time as long as you want, can or desire.

First, get to know the city:

1.- Arguelles and Moncloa: area to meet University students. Many dance clubs are found here, along with ale houses and fast-food joints. The area is bounded by Pintor Rosales, Cea Bermúdez, Bravo Murillo, San Bernardo, and Conde Duque.

2.- Plaza de Santa Bárbara, Glorieta de Bilbao, and Alonso Martínez: good place to start the night in one of its popular bars and pubs. You can also have a bit in a fast food restaurants.

3.- Malasaña: nearby Plaza de Dos de Mayo. Lots of cafés and bars with live music. If you don’t like fast food, you can try any of its moderately-prices restaurants.

4.- Plaza Mayor/Puerta del Sol – Very, very, very popular. Filled with tapas bars and cuevas (drinking caves). Major streets to have some tapas and try different bars are Cava de San Miguel, Cava Alta, and Cava Baja. You can order pinchos y raciones (tasty snacks and tidbits).

5.- Gran Vía – Movie and theater area which concentrates all nightlife action on little streets branching off the Gran Vía.

6.- Plaza de Isabel II/Plaza de Oriente – Packed with tourists. Many restaurants and cafes flourish here, including the famous Café de Oriente.

7.- Chueca – the centre of Madrid’s gay scene, but it’s also the place to be for the determinedly hip. Famous streets: Hortaleza, Infantas, Barquillo, and San Lucas. You can also enjoy a nice dinner in any of its cheap restaurants.
