Alatriste Hits The Big Screen

There’s only one film Spain is talking about this summer - Alatriste based on the character in Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s book, which pays homage to old Spanish swashbuckling novels. To see the film in its original version, visit any Yelmo cinema complex (link below). The story takes us back to the 17th-century Spanish empire, when Diego Alatriste, loyal soldier in the Royal Army, is fighting in Flanders. In an ambush by the Dutch, Balboa, his friend and comrade-in-arms, dies from a fatal wound. Alatriste honours the last request from the lips of his dieing friend and promises to fulfill it - to care for his son and keep him away from a career as a soldier. However, history has other ideas for the swash buckling hero… The movie features Viggo Mortensen and other Spanish stars such as Elena Anaya, Pilar Bardem and Javier Cámara.
